Finally, episode 2 is done! Sometimes the scenes are kind of choppy in this drama and require more transitions to make it flow in writing.
There were also definitely a few creepy scenes in this. Some of the serial killer they are chasing. And a couple of the mysterious creepy "mastermind".
Episode 2
Bo Jin Yan calls Zi Yu who is in military gear (cs/halo live
action role play?) to tell Zi Yu that he lost power in his house and has ran
out of fish. Zi Yu tells him that he is not his nanny and hangs up on Bo Jin
Yan thinking that, for once, he has hung up first. His happiness does not last
long because he is “shot” and loses the game, haha.
Jian Yao is out shopping at the fish market when she
receives a call from Zi Yu inquiring about the fish market. What a coincidence
she can help Jin Yan order fish to be delivered since he has such a particular
palette.
Fu Zi Yu gets a call while skydiving (?) from Jian Yao
saying that the gift that he has given is too expensive. The fishing rod is
over 3000 dollars. Zi Yu says that Jin Yan will not take it back and he has no
use for it, so she should keep it.
Bo Jin Yan and Zi Yu go car shopping and test out luxury
cars. “Sexy,” says Bo Jin Yan. Fu Zi Yu says that he programmed the car and the
car is called Andy. This is totally a car ad placement…
A few scenes back we see a kid who goes to deliver fish to
Bo Jin Yan. Now, there is a mob outside Bo Jin Yan’s house because the kid who
delivered fish has disappeared. Jian Yao sees them (her neighbors since this is
where she grew up) and helps them communicate with Bo Jin Yan by calling him.
Bo Jin Yan tells them to go away but later allows them to go into the ‘room’ on
the first floor.
Apparently the room had preserved body parts. Everyone freaks
and runs. Jian Yao was scared until she realizes that this must be Bo Jin Yan’s
research. Xun Ran gets here with the police and says that they now must
investigate Bo Jin Yan.
Meanwhile, Bo Jin Yan is upstairs searching online about the
case. They try to find him and cannot get into a room on the top floor. Jian
Yao calls only to have Bo Jin Yan say that he is busy.
When Xun Ran contacts the Police Department Chief, the chief
says that he is on the way. They realize that it is a misunderstanding and
Professor Bo (Bo Jin Yan) is a professor at the University of Maryland. He
returned to China to be an assistant professor and landed in their village—the chief
seems pleased to have him.
Jian Yao’s sister wants Bo Jin Yan’s signature. Jian Yao
says, a few days ago you were calling him a demon, now you are calling him Da Shen (idol/god)?
Next comes Xun Ran. He asks her to …. “teach him his (Bo Jin
Yan’s) secrets” because he wants to learn to be a better profiler. Xun Ran says
that if she is Bo Jin Yan’s assistant, this will also help him.
When Jian Yao returns home, her sister says that Da Shen has
visited. Bo Jin Yan is in the other room going through her things. He then
profiles her and teases her about the illogical romance novels that she has
read. When she gets offended by his digging, he says that her sister allowed
him to “flip through any books”. And all of this small talk was Jin Yan’s way
to convince Jian Yao to be his assistant. The final thing that convinces her to show up the next morning is
how it will help the disappearing children.
The next morning Jian Yao shows up for work. Bo Jin Yan is
in a bathrobe and falls asleep while waiting for his milk to microwave. (is
this China’s version of fan-service? ~ Wallace and his broad shoulders in a
bathrobe) When he wakes up some more, he comments on how she has changed her
hairstyle. She says that she is trying to match his style.
He then states that
before was better because it looked more pleasing to the eye, it’s best to
change it back…
(and yet another car ad…. This is the third one of this
brand. Guess they are sponsoring this drama)
Andy the car talks to Jian Yao.
Bo Jin Yan tells Jian Yao that he profiles this to be a
crime committed by one man. Jian Yao notes that his theory is very different
from what the police think – that there is a child-trafficking ring.
They investigate one of the missing children’s room. Jian
Yao made some observations (the child likely brought eggs with him to his aunt’s
since Chinese people usually bring gifts while visiting) that helped Bo Jin Yan’s
investigation. Bo Jin Yan guesses that since the child likes video games but
has no money, he may have been selling the eggs. Bo Jin Yan is so impressed by her understanding of this cultural norm (that he would not have understood... low EQ) that he hugs her!?
Bo Jin Yan makes observations and profiles the criminal. He’s
a serial killer who is standoffish. A loner.
The episode ends with a scene of someone putting pictures of
Bo Jin Yan and Jian Yao (taken earlier in the episode by “someone”) on a board
full of pictures.
Comments
Some of the scenes seem choppy. The plot does not flow as well
as the novel. However, I do like the pretty scenery and film style!
The theme song is from the British Sherlock series that I
love. But it’s kind of weird that they are using the same tune. Maybe this is
just the generic Sherlock tune? Not sure.
I’m going to try really hard to catch up some more with recap-ing this
weekend.
