Song in the Clouds Episode 6 Recap

"Alright!" This mirrors my current outlook on recaps for Song in the Clouds.

This episode was quite eventful so I'm recapping it on its own. With this episode done, I'm making good headway catching up to the weekly updates. Thankfully this drama isn't a daily drama!

In this episode, Yun Ge finally meets the second male lead as an adult. Though she still isn't the brightest bulb out there, she seems to be more reserved in this episode.



Episode 6 

Liu Bing Yi plays a song for Yun Ge on his flute but Xu Ping Jun comes in with news that two people have been two murders in Chang An and ruins the mood. Xu Ping Jun asks Meng Jue to join and Yun Ge says that he has already left. Liu Bing Yi says that it is unsafe for Yun Ge to stay at the hotel without Meng Jue and asks for her to join them. Xu Ping Jun agrees when Liu Bing Yi asks her but doesn’t seem very happy.

Meng Jue is at the shooting range and uncharacteristically misses. His acquaintance from before says that shooting is the same as dating, the aim is the heart. They discuss who is trying to kill Liu Bing Yi, though they are not certain, Meng Jue now knows that Liu Bing Yi’s identity has been discovered. Meng Jue says another gentleman with the surname Liu has invited him to meet.

Yun Ge moves in with Liu Bing Yi and Xu Ping Jun. Liu Bing Yi shows them a map of Chang An he drew for Yun Ge and she comments that his handwriting is very pretty. Xu Ping Jun says that she is illiterate which prompts Yun Ge to teach her a few words patiently. Xu Ping Jun shakes her head and Liu Bing Yi mentions that people must share a fate with words to work out just like how some couples are not meant to be together so they break up. Changing topics, Xu Ping Jun helpfully explains a few restaurants to Yun Ge.

While Xu Ping Jun goes to make tea, Yun Ge tries to hang a drawing and falls into Liu Bing Yi’s arms. There’s a tense moment when Liu Bing Yi seemed fond of Yun Ge but then Xu Ping Jun comes and catches their moment and Yun Ge tries to explain herself while Xu Ping Jun claims that she understands and that she is not the jealous type.

As Yun Ge heads to bed, Xu Ping Jun invites Yun Ge to drink with her. Xu Ping Jun says that they should become sisters (through a ceremony) and since the stars were very pretty they should do it tonight. Afterwards, they drink some more and share secrets. Xu Ping Jun mentions that she is upset about Liu Bing Yi and asks Yun Ge to think of Liu Bing Yi as her older brother as well. 

She tells Yun Ge about their story meeting when they were young. Yun Ge asks if Liu Bing Yi has an uncle with the surname “Zhao” (Ling Gege’s ‘uncle’ from the first two episodes). Xu Ping Jun then changes the conversation to Meng Jue and Yun Ge’s relationship and Yun Ge takes this opportunity to escape. 

Meanwhile in the palace, as Liu Fu Ling listens to his queen play flute he remembers his past with his her and how he taught her to play flute when she was sad. He compliments the queen on her skills with the flute and says that he feels less tired after listening to her song on the flute. She asks to play a game of Go and they play two rounds.

That night, Yun Ge lies awake in bed and thinks about Ling Gege (but as Liu Bing Yi because she thinks that he is Ling Gege) and says that he is no longer hers

The queen falls asleep while playing Go and Liu Fu Ling carries her to bed.

The next morning when the queen wakes up she asks where the emperor is and her servant says that he had left after taking her back to bed. She is ecstatic when the emperor sends her a hair ornament as a present. She thinks to herself that they will one day be together and she will become his wife.

Liu Fu Ling is bothered by a rash that has been a recurring problem since his childhood. They send word out into the city to find a doctor who can treat him because the doctor who treated him in years prior died in a fire.

Yun Ge left a letter saying that she went in search for inspiration for new dishes. She’s sad that Ling Gege now belongs to another and Meng Jue is now angry at her. Due to Xu Ping Jun’s teasing Yun Ge is questioning whether she likes Meng Jue. 

As she thinks this she passes the real Liu Fu Ling who is out looking for a doctor. Coincidentally they were both distracted in that moment and did not see each other as his jade pendant (the real one) fell. The Eunuch notices that the emperor’s rash has reached his face and says that they must find a doctor soon.

When Liu Fu Ling and eunuch get to the doctor’s place they hear that the doctor has left half a year ago. A helpful passerby mentions that the doctor they are looking for had an assistant called Bai He. Liu Fu Ling walks around and their paths cross again but they do not meet until he falls into the river and she helps save him.

As Yun Ge dries Liu Fu Ling’s clothing an old lady appears and asks if Yun Ge is Bai He and at first Yun Ge says she is not but seeing the old lady sad she said that she is Bai He.

Bai He’s little brother tells Yun Ge that his sister Bai He went to the mountain to find herbs and didn’t come back. Their grandmother cried so much that she is now blind. He asks her to pretend to be his sister so his grandma isn’t sad anymore.

They pinky promise and Yun Ge says the same thing she said when she made a pinky promise to Liu Fu Ling as a child. Liu Fu Ling comes in just in time to see the pinky promise and stares at her. 

Yun Ge notices that Liu Fu Ling’s rash is getting worse and says that she will go find some herbs for him. The little brother (Ah Fu) tells her to be careful.

When Yun Ge comes back and makes the medicine, Liu Fu Ling says that the medicine smells terrible but Yun Ge says that bad smelling medicines work best. 

Not long after his rash is better and she stares at his face almost as if she recognizes him.

I've been following this drama on Weibo and cant believe it's been two years since it's been filmed and is only airing just now. To think that some modern day dramas have a turnover rate of one month... Now that this drama is finally out, I wonder if the author will finally write the third book to this series.

Now with my favorite Ling Gege in the picture, I'm not sure who I'm rooting for anymore! Both male actors are pretty good at acting and they look pretty too. Who is everyone else rooting for?
