These three episodes mainly set the foundation for the plot. I wasn't sure to title this a recap or summary. It starts out as more a summary and then becomes more recap-like.
Episodes 3-5
We start off with Yun Ge seeing the jade pendant that she thinks belonged to Ling Gege (big brother Ling) so she thinks that Liu Bing Yi is Ling Gege. Liu Bing Yi did not recognize her and both Liu Bing Yi and Xu Ping Jun think she is a burglar--she did run off with their jade pendant.
Meanwhile, Yun Ge reminisces about how she gave Ling Gege her shoe and promised Ling Gege that she would go find him when she grew up.
Brooding, Meng Jue watches everything from the river.

The real Liu Ling (Liu Fu Ling aka Ling Gege) reminisces about his past and how Yun Ge told him stories to help him sleep. Meng Jue lends Yun Ge money to buy a green dress. Meng Jue also has a moment to himself where he tells one of his followers to call off the target he put on Yun Ge "the girl in green" meaning he directed someone to steal her money.
Innocent Yun Ge interacts with Xu Ping Jun and acts all cute to befriend her. Xu Ping Jun finds that Liu Bing Yi is in jail for betting on a rooster fight. Liu Bing Yi won and the official's son that lost used his connections to put Liu Bing Yi in jail.
Xu Ping Jun and Yun Ge compete to see who is the best cook. The king, Liu Fu Ling, just happens to pass by while disguised as a common person of wealth and is asked to break the tie. Though he did not see Yun Ge (who is using a pen name as chef), he complimented that the dish made by Yun Ge tasted special and awarded her a bar of gold. Yun Ge and Xu Ping Jun taste each others cooking and since Yun Ge knows how to make Xu Ping Jun's dish, Xu Ping Jun said that her cooking is not special and she could not guess how to make Yun Ge's dish so Yun Ge wins.
Yun Ge sells Meng Jue her bar of gold to give to Xu Ping Jun to buy out the guards to be nicer to Liu Bing Yi. Xu Ping Jun questions Yun Ge's niceness. Yun Ge also starts cooking to help Liu Bing Yi since Meng Jue said that she can use her cooking to persuade nobility if she becomes popular enough.
We find that Huo Cheng Jun’s brother was the one that put Liu Bing Yi into jail. Official Xu is invited to judge the upcoming cooking contest between Yi Pin Ju (the number one restaurant) and Qi Li Xiang (restaurant where Yun Ge works).

The cook from Yi Pin Ju could not compete because he was stricken by a weird illness where he could not taste anything (fishy fishy). Official Xu still asks to taste Yun Ge’s food.
Xu Ping Jun brings Liu Bing Yi food in jail and they enjoy a
date in jail. Since he is currently awaiting execution in fall there is a
bittersweet undertone.
Huo Cheng Jun disguises herself as a boy and runs into Meng
Jue at the temple. While she thinks this is a coincidental meeting, we can see
that Meng Jue had planned their meeting. They were offered the option to bid
for the painting that they both liked – which also seemed like a set up. In the
end, Meng Jue won the bid for the painting. Huo Cheng Jun is upset that she lost.
Meng Jue (nicknamed Meng Rock by Yun Ge because she thinks
that he is as frank as a rock) tried to help her in the kitchen but ended up making a mess. Afterwards he talks to the store owner about how Yun Ge is working too
much and needs better treatment. He gives Chang Shu (owner) a strategy likely
about the restaurant.
Huo Cheng Jun is thrilled when she receives the painting she liked from Meng Jue with
a date invitation.
Meng Jue comes home to an exhausted Yun Ge and makes a bet
that the restaurant owner will give her half a day off tomorrow. If Meng Jue
wins, Yun Ge has to go meet him at a certain time. – Guess he double booked
tomorrow.
When Yun Ge comes to work Chang Shu says that she only needs
to make a few dishes today. Meng Jue’s plan is for the restaurant to raise
prices, limit customers, and require advanced booking. This not only earns more
than before, Yun Ge also doesn’t have to work so much.
The next day Meng Jue goes on his date with Huo Cheng Jun and they have what she believes to be a heart-to-heart conversation. She says that she needs to marry well to help her family and he acts understanding. Part way through their date, Huo Cheng Jun even mentions how he loves men who are straightforward like Meng Jue (little does she know...).
Yun Ge and Xu Ping Jun run into Meng Jue and Huo Cheng Jun
on their date. Huo Cheng Jun recognized Liu Bing Yi’s jade pendant that he gave
to Huo Cheng Jun so she tried to buy it. When her offer was turned down she left
with Meng Jue. Once she got home she reported everything to Official Xu and her
dad told her that Liu Bing Yi was the lost descendant that can overthrow the
throne.
That night, Yun Ge sees that Meng Jue is in a bad mood and she tells him to cheer up. When people die they become stars and when the stars twinkle it means that the person is missing them. They start counting stars together and her efforts seem to really touch Meng Jue who has been pretty fake for the past few episodes.
Liu Bing Yi was saved from the jail (likely the doing of
Official Huo) and they all celebrate. Yun Ge once again asks if Liu Bing Yi
remembers her and gets yet another rejection.
Meng Jue brings an acquaintance and his wife into the celebration of Liu Bing Yi's release. Yun Ge, Meng Jue, Ling Bing Yi, Xu Ping Jun, and the new couple all drink together. Yun Ge gets drunk and Meng Jue glares from the side because she is still pining over Liu Bing Yi while congratulating her new friend Xu Ping Jun and wishing them happiness.
Afterwards, Liu Bing Yi tries to see why Yun Ge is being so nice
to him in a semi-threatening way. His face was super close to hers and his tone full of contempt. But after closely examining Yun Ge, he says that Yun Ge looks like she is telling the truth. Yun Ge is really confused and in the meantime we notice that Meng Jue is watching as per usual.
In the palace, the emperor broods and watches his empress
Shang Guan Xiao Mei play the flute.
Yun Ge, Xu Ping Jun, and Liu Bing Yi all get drunk. Meng Jue
watches from the side and does not seem very happy. As drunk Yun Ge stumbles home, Meng Jue tries to kiss her but she
hits him and runs. As she leaves, Meng Jue takes out the shoe from Yun Ge (part of the same pair as Ling Gege's) and reminisces
that he has also waited nine years for her.
The next day, she wonders whether Meng Jue is upset with her because she hit him. She seems to have forgotten the reason she tried to hit Meng Jue... She then cooks for Liu Bing Yi and says that she will cook him the best meals.

I enjoyed these adult episodes significantly more and will likely keep watching. Not sure if I will finish, but I saw some stills from recent episodes that I want to see acted out so I'll at least watch till around episode 12. Although Yun Ge is super naive to the point of being dumb in these three episodes, she is supposed to be naive because she's never had to interact with non family members her whole life. I also liked Du Chun (the actor playing Meng Jue) a lot more than I thought I would.
This was my first time attempting a recap and only decided to do so somewhere in the middle of episode three since it wasn't too much more effort to type while watching. This is why the first part of this recap seemed more summary-like. I'll try to make them more consistent in future recaps.
